~Ghost Story Night~

First... Pumpkin Carving Night - October 26-27 2007
to the West of Main Street, Parkville

Lanny Frakes donated these 140 pumpkins this year...
Look for him at the Farmer's Market and buy some of his good stuff

Just a Few Dozen More to Go

This hard working crew finishing up the project (photo by Dean Katerndahl)

First cut off the tops and remove the 'stuffing'

Then proceed with the art work

Sanctuary Director Jim Reed with his attempt

Working intently on a Masterpiece

Director Jim Reed said there were some 50 volunteers working on this project

A Group Photo by Dean Katerndahl after I had headed for Home

A few early customers at the gate

And more as the evening progressed

Jim said the final attendance count was 375 and the gate grossed $1,500 fot the Sanctuary

The hot dogs were being grilled and the food line ready for the first arrivals

The hot dog cooker crew... thanks to Butch Lovell and Shan Johnson amd their dinky smoker they drug in

From 6 p.m. on til dark, a steady progression of eaters... and come back for seconds!

Jim Reed told me that Farmland Foods had donated 570 hot dogs for the event

Our Parkville Mayor, Kathy Dusenbery (center) dishing up hot dogs until Story time

Early the food line was sparse

But later, backed up to the gate

Then the people began heading on to the Spook Walk

Entering through the Big Black Cat

And on into the realm of demons

All of the Spook trail materials were brought in and set up by Bill Jonas and Michell and Frank Williams

And much thanks to student volunteers from Park Hill South High School

They monitored and added to the spooky effects on the trails

No, not a statue, there's a guy in there wielding those scissorhands...

There, I caught him without his headpiece!

One lady was quated as saying they never miss this event... This is the best family event in Parkville!

Maybe a Rest Stop before heading up the hill?

Then on up to the old Girl Scout cabin site for the Ghost Stories

And this spook at the turn, directing traffic and handing out candy bars

A couple of warm-up storytellers for the first to arrive

And Erwin Carney with his warm-up

Pat Harris and Erwin Carney decorated the cabin and wired up the lights amd tended the fire

This young lad volunteered to tell a story about the 'plumber', I didn't hear much except the punch line

Then the official program began with Director Jim Reed introducing the first Story Teller

Vivian Hartzel Hunt starting off the program in an energetic manner

And then on with more speakers into the night.. But I slipped out to start on this page...
