~ TAMALES! ~
OK... Not yet, that is a 5 pound hunk of pork shoulder that I got on super sale at the Price Chopper... So many times I get an idea for a dish and then the Price Chopper has that item on sale... I love my Price Chopper store...

Well they only had two very large roasts on the shelf... about 7 pounds, a bit too much... I asked the lady if she had a smaller one and she brought out a 5 pounder... Well, that would do but would it fit in my Hot Pot? Yeah it did, but just barely... Added a bit of peanut oil to the pot and cranked it up to about 350 to brown on all sides.. then with a couple cups of chicken stock to simmer a couple hours... Well it took longer than that to get it to shredding consistency...

Meantime chopped up a BIG onion and some garlic and jalapeno... Then popped out the meat and pulled out the bone, any visible fat and then shredded it all up... then back in the pot to add to the sauteed onions and peppers... and add chili powder, oregano and cumin.. salt and pepper of course...

But by then it was getting late and as tamales take some time to assemble and steam, I put it all away for the night in the fridge.. Now that might be today's project to finish them up...

But other things on the agenda... Need to check if my HDMI to DVI cable is in the mail... Then to the Price Chopper to get another can of beef stock for the tamales... Then to Kick's 66 to trade in a $5 winner Bingo for a better one... Already cashed in a $20 winner Bingo and a $10 winner Crossword scratcher yesterdsy, that paid for the pig and some to spare...

And then... if we get some sun, I want to do a retake of the Sanctuary from the top of the Dam and change the intro to my latest video... And then.. tonight is the first night of the pumpkin carving for tha Ghost Story Night.. and I want to get video of that... So.. perhaps a busy day ahead...

~ New Hot Pot! ~
Well, Presto calls it an electric Kitchen Kettle, 6 quarts and good size.. and very versatile... Fry, deep fry, boil, steam, stew... and what else?

So I had to try it out yesterday with some beef chili, seasoned and browned the meat, in with the chopped green pepper, jalapeno pepper, onions and garlic... Then a can of crushed tomatoes and a can of tomato sauce... Some chili powder, sweet basil, oregano, and cumin... That do it? Then turn down the heat to simmer.. and the best part, that chili aroma all afternoon .. Ah Yes...

Now I want to make some tamales... Roast a small pork shoulder in there for the filling... Then shred and season with all the goodies... Then mix up some masa and spread out on pre-soaked cork husks, a nice big spoon or two of filling, then wrap and stack in the steamer basket that came with the hot pot and steam the tamales to perfection... Yeah, I just love to cook...

And the Best Part... Pennys had a list price of $49.99 but with a sale discount of $30.11... So my price was $19.88.. Now that is a Deal!... ~ Oh Yes, How Sweet it Is! ~

~ Kitchen Chat and MSNBC TV News ~
Multitasking? Well, no one in Kitchen Chat so I switched on the TV in the Vista machine... AT@T U-Verse feeds my Internet service to three Computers and three TV receivers... Including the one in Media Center in my Vista computer... Can be handy when things get boring... Like today with NO projects in sight...

~ Tomato Report~ Week Twenty-Six ~
Six months already since planting and only picked 22 so far... Picked two of those best colored ones there after I took this pic... Maybe get a few more before a freeze... BUT... They say... we might get a freeze and even some snow by this coming Thursday... So in that case it looks like green tomato relish making time...

Oh well, that is good stuff too... Onward and Upward...

~ Another New Video? ~
I have been waiting for some fall color in the leaves and I thought there was enough on Thursday for a Nature Sanctuary video... But there was not as much in the view from the top of the Riss Lake Dam that I had expected, but I proceeded anyway, and there was some color as I walked through the Sanctuary on most of the trail in the lower section, I did not climb to the highest levels this time. This time I did climb to the top of the waterfall to take a shot downward, all previous views have been toward the top...

But I will keep an eye on the progressing advance of fall color, and I may redo the opening scene on this video, simple enough to do to replace this one...

~ Another New Web Page? ~
And again >>> Well, maybe not NEW... Revised? Enhanced? I had three web pages in one actually... Kansas City, Union Station and Liberty Memorial... So, I am making three new pages out of One old one and adding more photos to each... I finished the memorial Page Sunday, finished the Union Station Monday... That leaves the Kansas City page and I finished that a couple days ago... BUT.. Ran into some more Yahoo problems... I uploaded more pics but they wouldn't show up on the web page.. NOW WHAT?

Well, I tried uploading the missing pics today... They were showing up on my GeoCities file manager page, but not when I went to the Web Page... But.. today it was working and I reloaded the missing pages.. and VOILA! They are on the Kansas City page now...

~ A New Printer ~
Now what?... On Monday I wanted to print some glossy business cards for my web site.. Can't do it on the little HP, jams up... So I tried the Epson photo printer... OOOPS!.. won't work... did last time... So I tried this and that, nothing worked, says Printer Not Ready... Finally swapped USB cables and VOILA! It worked,, well long enough to print up about 50 cards...

Then I went to print up some cards for the Sanctuary web site... OOOPS! Printer Not Ready... Well it wasn't the cable then... So I tried everthing again, re-installed the software, updated the driver.. No Go...

Well, I never liked that Epson much anyway... I got online and ordered their latest Photosmart printer.. and $50 off and free shipping.. HAH! So that showed up Yesterday.. fast service.. And I proceeded to install it and test it out.. Now I LIKE this one!

But while I was waiting for the new printer I hooked the Epson up to the Compaq and installed the software.. AHA!.. now it was wroking and I printed off a bunch of cards for the Nature Sanctuary... Then I called a friend and asked if he wanted the Epson, yeah he would take it.. Now I'll get rid of that and then live happily ever after...


~ Tuesday Addendum ~ October 7, 2008 ~
~ Chipping Butterfly Pass Trail ~
I was invited to go Saturday to watch volunteers work on chipping a trail in the Sanctuary before the October Halloween Story Telling night, it was in bad shape from too much rain...

So, I got a lot of video of the proceedings and worked on that Monday, finishing up today...

I made a Blu-ray HD DVD for me.. (you should see that!) And three SD DVDs for the Director and two members of the Committee... Uploaded an .mpg file to Google and put an embed from that on the Sanctuary Video page and now an embed on MY PAGE... (here)

One advantage of putting the videos on MY PAGE is that I can make them a little bigger without losing quality... Even though Herr Wulle insists on going to my blog where my text I add is still missing... Then griping about it...

So now, I am just posting a pic and Title and asking people to click on MY PAGE to see my blog... They can still comment on the Yahoo 360 page... We shall see if that ever gets fixed

~ Tuesday 7, 2008 ~

~ Chicken Smokin Day! ~
Such a nice day! Actually several weeks now of nice days...

Thinking of smoking something.. what?... Turkey legs or chicken quarters... So, up to the Price Chopper to check it out...AHA! turkey legs $1.49 a pound.. but no legs on the shelf.. But, chicken leg quarters for 99 cents.. that will work... Bought two packs of four

Back to the ranch to trim them up... sprinkle with garlic salt and BBQ rub and into the smoker with a chunk of apple and pecan wood... 4 hours later... Out of the smoker... sauced up with Cattleman's BBQ sauce and into the oven for an hour covered in foil.. And VOILA!

The rest of the day, editing some Sanctuary video, then a manhattan chatting with Can in the afternoon... Finishing the day with a smoked chicken leg quarter, BBQ beans and cole slaw... YEAH! How Sweet it Is...

~ A Hot Truck for Herr Wulle ~
Was invited to come over to the Sanctuary on Saturday to watch them work on chipping a trail before the October Halloween Story Telling night, was in bad shape from too much rain...

So, I got a lot of video of the proceeding and will work on that today... BUT...

I saw this tricked out little Chevy truck in the parking lot on the way out, and since Herr Wulle is something of a car nut, I took some video for him... So here ya go Sigi!

~ Tomato Report ~ Week Twenty-four ~

Well lookee here, It is working today, do you suppose Tomas was right, that I had exceeded my BLOG limit, never heard there was one...Anyway, while chat wasn't busy I started deleting old blogs. almost 800 dating back to December 2005... I managed to delete over a hundred before I got bored with it. It is a slow process...

And now, I skipped last week's tomato report because it looked the same as the week before, but this week shows a lot more bigger tomatoes and a couple turning color... I picked number 16 a day or so ago... Sure not going to hit the total of those in the pot last year... But we do have a few weeks of above freezing weather if luck holds out...

What today? Well, the Director called yesterday, a work project today in the Sanctuary and I might go get spme video, just chipping a trail so might not be much action...

Anyway... Up and At 'Em...

On the way back from the City Hall in Kansas City, I stopped at the Children's fountain in North Kansas City... On my fountain page this fountain was not running full force and lost some of it's impact... This time it loooks as it normally does... Maybe I should get more ot the major fountains in Kansas city on video for another DVD...

~ Liberty Memorial, Kansas City, Missouri ~
Another trip to Kansas City on Thursday to take a ride to the top of the only War l War Memorial in the country, the National World War I Liberty Memorial Memorial in Kansas City, Missouri.. A nice view of the Union station, downtown and midtown Kansas City, though 100 feet or so less than the top of the City Hall...

And I saw a lot of school buses as I drove up, thought I wouldn't get a ride up in the tower, But they were just visiting the large museum below ground and were leaving about the time I was ready to go up in the tower...

And several Mexican Touristas got on the elevator as I did, talked a bit to the lovely senorita who was with them... And I got some decent video, came on home to spend the morning burning another HD DVD and getting it set to upload...

OK, a trip to Kansas City again and up on top of the City Hall for some long shot video... And it's quite a view, I read we have the 4th tallest City Hall in the world and it is a beautiful building inside, all brass and Italian marble... And at 443 feet, I am not going to question the height, 29 stories with an observation deck on the 30th floor...

And as usual, this looks great on my TV in true HD Blu-ray, but loses quite a lot of the effect on Google compressed video...
Oh well... Anyway, here it is ...

Well, that post was a day early... TODAY is Tuesday 30, 2008, I didn't think I would get it posted til today...
And I had to try getting that info on my 360 a couple times again... I don't know what's going on... Write a blog then the text disappears... And now squeezing the video, that doesn't happen on my web pages... Yahoo is doing it ...
And behind on my Tomato Report... looked the same as last week and no ripe ones so I skipped a week...
Now what today? No projects and Pay Day tomorrow!
