~ The New Sullivan Nature Sanctuary Project ~

A new Nature Sanctuary being developed on a tract of land to the West of Main Street, Parkville

Rush Creek (center) Flows through the center of the project

The new Soccer Fields and parking lots (background left) will be located between the Sanctuary and the Missouri River

From the same spot during the 2007 flood

Rush Creek during the flood between the North and South entrances

Rush Creek during the flood at the South entrance

One of two stone markers at the entrances

A new sign and marker at the South Entrance

Louis Jonas and Jim Reed on an inspection tour of the new construction

The South trail before the flood

The first steps over the berm, washed out in the flood

And the replacement waiting for hand rails

And with new hand rails installed

The creek side of the new steps, waiting for hand rails

The creek side with new rails and the new rustic creek fence

Here discussing ideas constructing the swinging bridge

More of the warning fence along the creek

Then on down the creek to the second set of steps

The creek walk before the warning fence

Now with the fence the entire length of the walkway and construction

Now joined by Irwin Carney who is involved in much of the planning

Now... where are we going to build the bridge?

This may be the location planned for the bridge

A good start had been made on chipping the South Trail before the flood

The place planned for the second set of steps over the berm as shown on the Work Project page

A start on the steps before the flood

Approaching the site of the replacement steps

And up and back over the berm

The new second set of steps complete with hand rails

The back side of the berm before the steps were started

And now the stairs are completed

West end of the South trail, now heading back to the entrance

Later this area had to be cleared of flood debris and new wood chips layed down by volunteer work crews

There was not much development of the trail on this side of the creek yet...

Much more progress has been done here now with the help of volunteer groups

On to the North Entrance before much work had beeen started

Yes... A trail in there somewhere

Then with a sign and a marker

And a culvert in the ditch with stone atop

And new side rails to prevent vehicles from entering

North side of the Sanctuary during the flood

Not much had been done in this area so no damage was done
